Problem One. New information is published every day offering new and better ways to care for patients. Keeping up to date on best practices can be extremely challenging.
Problem Two. The pace of care has increased. This means there is less time and less space for dedicated teaching.
This is why St. Joseph’s Health Centre is building a Learning Centre—to ensure all health professionals get the formal education and practical experience they need to learn and practice their skills.
When the new Our Lady of Mercy Wing opens in early 2012, it will free up about 9,000 square feet in the Health Centre to build a Learning Centre. This will be dedicated space for staff, physicians, health care professionals and trainees to learn, train and stay up-to-date on the latest in health research.
Features include three classrooms, dedicated room for simulation training, a computer/e-learning room, a library and quiet study area, and learner’s lounge for about 3,400 physicians, volunteers and students from 13 health disciplines.
It’s important that our health professionals train together using e-modules, classroom training, simulated learning, hands-on clinical training and one-on-one mentoring support so they can learn to work effectively as a team.
