When you or your loved ones need care, you want it close to home. That’s why St. Joseph’s Health Centre is building the new Our Lady of Mercy Wing, which is a four-storey facility for newborns, children, adults and seniors. The new wing will open in early 2012.
This is where about 40% of our patients—newborns, children, adults and seniors who need to stay overnight—will be cared for in space that is bigger, brighter and better equipped with today’s medical equipment.First Floor – The first floor has an expanded Family Birthing Centre that will now accommodate up to 4,000 births a year. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is much larger—from 12 bassinettes to 20 so that we can care for more infants who need specialized care.Second and Fourth Floors – Many of our adult patients have heart failure, kidney disease, lung disorders, or are recovering from surgery or another serious condition. These new floors have larger, brighter and more private rooms.Third Floor – This floor is dedicated to kids. St. Joseph’s is a regional paediatric centre and our doctors perform about 1,500 paediatric day surgeries annually. This is where these little ones will recover. Our Just for Kids Clinic is a paediatrician-run walk-in clinic that has about 11,000 visits each year. This Clinic will move into larger space, as well as our specialized clinics for kids such as the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit.Get a sneak peek at photos inside the new building by clicking here.
